Ridgewood Cycle Shop ride information

We roll if roads are wet, cancel if raining or storms approaching.

[edit] Mondays - Group C - Evening

A casual tour of Ridgewood and Hohokus, parts of The Duck Pond Path will also be incorporated into the ride as the season goes on. Meet at Ridgewood Cycle Shop at 6:15pm and plan to roll at 6:30pm. Intended for those beginning cyclists who want to learn more about riding in groups, rules of the road, etc. 6 -10 miles.

[edit] Tuesday - Training Ride - Morning

Meet at 8:45am for 9:00am roll out. Route to be determined, 20 -40 miles. Training rides are faster paced and don't always wait for dropped riders, be prepared. This will be led by George Samala of Personal Best Rehabilitation. George is great source of information regarding training and injuries, just ask!

[edit] Tuesday - Group B - Evening

The Loop, 22 miles. Meet at 6:15pm for 6:30pm roll out. This is a group ride, not a higher paced training ride. Ride will start at a casual pace, rolling out of Ridgewood, heading north. If the group is split by a red light, the lead group will ease up and wait for the tail to reconnect. The group will stop at the top of Christmas Hill and wait to regroup. Be observant of traffic while waiting. At Paramus Road and Linwood, the group will ease up and ride back to the shop at a casual pace. If conditions allow, there is an 8 mile add-on to the The Loop.

Crazy Eights, 50 miles. Meet at 5:45am for 6:00am roll out. This is a higher paced training ride. Ride will start at a casual pace, rolling out of Ridgewood, the pace will pick up in the first couple of miles. The group will circle back to Ridgewood around 7:30am and then do the Loop. Additional riders can jump in for the second half. Training rides are faster paced and don't always wait for dropped riders, be prepared.

The Loop plus add on if time allows. Meet at 7:15am for 7:30 rollout. All groups will start at a casual pace, rolling out of Ridgewood,heading north. The pace will pick up in Hohokus and sort it self out into B, A and training pace. If groups A and B are split by a red light,the lead group willease up and wait for the tail to reconnect. The groups will stop at the top of Christmas Hill and wait to regroup. Be observant of traffic while waiting. At Paramus Road and Linwood, the groups will ease up and ride back to the shop at a casual pace. Training rides are faster paced and don't always wait for dropped riders, be prepared.

Rides to Harriman, Meandering tours of Bergen County, Centuries, Family Rides, Singles Only, Couples Only, Elliot's Birthday(5O years, 5O miles plus a century), Fourth of July Red, White and Blue Ride, and picnic rides will be planned as the season progresses. Ridgewood Cycle Shop is partnered with Starbucks in Northvale. Sunday rides will typically incorporate a Starbucks stop. There will be other rides starting at Starbucks also, check in for more details.

Women's Only Rides - Ridgewood Cycle Shop strongly encourages women to network and ride together.

Maps are posted on MapMyRide.com Click "MemberLogin", enter Ridgewoodcycle@verizon.net as email/username, 700x23 as password. Click on "Search for Rides", type in Ridgewood, NJ under location... Posted now is "The loop", "The LoopAdd on", "Ridge Road", "RCS to Northvale Starbucks #1" Seminars and workshops will be scheduled. Topics will include maintenance, flat tire repair, stretching for cyclists, nutrition,group ride etiquette, safety.

[edit] Guidelines

  • All riders must sign waiver provided by and kept on file RCS.
  • All riders must wear helmets.
  • All riders will follow the rules of the road, riding your bicycle is like driving a car, follow the same rules.
  • All bicycles need to be in good working order. It is advised to check Air pressure, Brakes, Chain and Quick Releases before every ride -ABC Quick Check.
  • All riders should carry 10,cell phone, cash, an emergency road kit (tube, patch kit,tire levers, C02 inflator or pump, multitool). Enter the shop number or leaders number on your phone.
  • Sunglasses, gloves, proper cycling clothing, lights recommended.
  • Children under 17 must be with an adult.

A 17mph and above for strong/experienced cyclists
B 14 -17mph for solid cyclists
C 10 -14mph for entry level/novice cyclists
Training Rides 19 -23mph for competitors
